Executive Summary -

Leading Transformation through data, AI and the Customer

At the latest Leaders Advisory Board (LAB), leaders came together to discuss how AI and Data transformations impact and affect the customer. These cross-functional events bring together leaders from all sorts of industries to discuss and learn from each other.

1.      Nader Hosni

Our first speaker was Nader Hosni, who took us through a case study of the transformation that happened at The National Lottery and used that case study to explore some dos and don’ts of transformation for the customer.

The key takeaway from Nader’s session was that transformation is like choreography that must follow an ideal sequence; otherwise, it slows down. We discussed the different aspects of where the data runs and how it can become a Spaghetti Estate, without a central home for all the aspects to sit in and talk to. And finally, when you untangle the spaghetti and take out the slow-working aspects, there are significant improvements in the delivery, because the “infrastructure moves at the speed of the slowest cog”

2.      Shruti Ahuja

Next up was Shruti Ahuja, who discussed her takeaways from transformations that she’s been a part of.

Shruti discussed the importance of setting up the foundations of a transformation correctly and stressed the importance of not being worried about sitting in a foundational stage for too long- this is where everything is built from, and to scale, this base has to be strong. She also brought up the importance of people in transformation and the strength that comes with empowering them because, at the end of the day, “AI cannot replace human judgment.”

Some great discussions came from this session, with delegates discussing how they can apply the lessons Shruti learnt to their own transformations.

3.      Naureen Mohammed

Our final speaker of the morning was Naureen Mohammed, who gave us a mini workshop on the customer lens and AI.

Naureen began by stressing the importance of becoming a business that is looking at how AI can and will impact the future. Pulling on her experiences of when people thought the internet wouldn’t impact marketing, Naureen made sure we understood that the tsunami of change towards AI is coming, and it’s coming quickly.

We then explored the roles of LLMs and how consumerism is changing as people are now asking LLMs for their advice on what to buy, with Naureen expecting that in the near future, LLMs will begin buying stuff for us.

Naureen got us in groups to ask different LLMs to give us recommendations on a product to see how different the answers can be, and the overall takeaway was that we cannot yet rely on LLMs for one definitive answer – yet.
